Local Nonprofits Provide Free Medical Care Program

About

In 2020, a group of local Non Profit Leaders in Alexandria met to discuss how we might all come together to provide free medical care for low income neighborhoods who have no medical insurance. The participants were; National Breast Center Foundation, Alexandria Celebrates Women, Neighborhood Health, Nueva Vida and Hearts of Love Foundation.

Our goal is to assist women with breast cancer and breast issues in getting free mammograms, doctors visits, biopsies, surgeries, treatment after surgeries, professional support during their illness and rehab as well as all transportation costs in getting to and from medical appointments and treatment. After many meetings, reaching out to medical personnel and negotiating some costs with those outside our committee, we broke down each segment of the Breast Cancer journey into phases where one of the above organizations was responsible for performing a key action in the process.

How We Are Assisting

We expect to finally announce our plan during the month of October, Breast Cancer Month, as we all gather for the National Breast Foundation March and Walk to Bust Cancer event on October 23, 2022 at Fort Hunt Park. Please join us for this special event as we kick off our program. Visit walktobustcancer.org to learn more and register online.
