About

Hearts of Love was originally created under the support of Grace Episcopal Church by the name, “The Kathleen Arthur Community Assistance Fund.” At the time, the Fund was set up to support abused women and children in Alexandia, VA - we provided housing and food until the families could get into more permanent programs run by the local or federal governments.

However, when COVID hit, there was a huge increase in families approaching the church for assistance. Our Fund then shifted towards helping low-income people in our neighborhood to pay rents, food, utilities, etc for those who lost their jobs. This program grew exponentially to the point we needed additional assistance. In January 2022, we transitioned to the umbrella of ACT for Alexandria, an organization that incorporates 200+ nonprofits. Around this time, we changed the name of the Fund to include Ed Arthur’s father, “Kathleen and Eddie Arthur Hearts of Love” in honor of their legacy and mission to help the less fortunate.

Our Fund continues to work closely with Grace Church to assist low-income families. We are truly grateful for their continued support and partnership.

How We Are Assisting

  • We help people in the neighborhood with rent, utilities, youth with backpacks for school, cash for gasoline purchases, gift cards for food, accessories for apartments, car repairs, and motel/hotel expenses to house families during interim time before getting enrolled in a program.

  • We donated to the Grace Episcopal Food Bank which feeds over 300 families a week.
